Why LTP?The Leadership Training Program is designed to bring out the best in tomorrow’s leaders. It is non-sectarian and is open to 5th through 8th grade boys from all religious backgrounds. Public speaking, teamwork, virtue formation, and sports are the pillars of the program. Mentoring High School leaders, selected for the academic and athletic excellence, guide the boys toward these goals. Leaders Forming Leaders: This is the heart of our program... The program started in 1997 in Bethesda, Maryland which is a suburb of Washington, DC. It grew from 45 boys that Fall to 670 boys in the Spring of 2004. High School mentors from schools such as Georgetown Preparatory School were the first to be chosen as counselors. It started with 10 high school mentors. As of the Spring of 2004, there were mentors from Georgetown Prep, Gonzaga, The Landon School, and St. Alban's. The program expanded locally to Annapolis MD, Woodbridge VA, and Northeast Washington DC. Nationally, the Leadership Training Program is now established in over 15 cities across the country. The inspiration for the program came from the real need for character and virtue formation in a hands-on manner. We seek to empower the community by re-enforcing the values they are trying to instill. Therefore, this program is a source of positive peer pressure in which older high school mentors are the example for the future leaders of our communities. |
